Things To Do
in Porthleven

Here in Porthleven there are a great variety of things to do in the local area whether your are on a family holiday or a quiet get away.

Family Days Out In Porthleven:
If you don't want to leave the village, Porthleven has plenty to offer you during your stay, with a wide range of cafes, restaurants, fish and chip shops and traditional pubs, all serving beautifully cooked local food.

Our beach is perfect for family days out or romantic evening walks and, depending on the tides, you may see local fishermen landing their catches or mending their nets and making crab-pots in a traditional way on the quayside.

Lifeboat Day and the Porthleven Food Festival are annual events, local angling trips, coastal cruises are widely available if you're feeling adventurous.

And Loe Pool - a freshwater lake separated from the sea by a sand bar - is one of the most remarkable places in Cornwall. A birdwatcher's paradise, the Loe is at the heart of the Penrose Estate, an area of great natural beauty and a wonderful place to walk.
Further Afield
Whether you are on a family holiday or a quiet get-away, Porthleven is never far away from the perfect day out - whatever the time of year. We are a short drive from Truro, Penzance, Falmouth and St Ives, with their diverse range of shops, museums and art galleries. Helston - home to the famous Flora Day each May - can also be reached on foot, through the beautiful Penrose Estate.

If you're exploring the coast by car, you'll want to visit Cornwall's remarkable open air Minack Theatre, which has performances throughout the summer, and stop off at St Michael's Mount, Newlyn, Mousehole and Land's End. Or take a daytrip by ferry or helicopter to the Scilly Isles.

Cornwall is famous for its gardens, so don't miss your opportunity to visit the Eden Project or the Lost Gardens of Heligan. And for the children, the Flambards Experience is an essential day out, with the National Maritime Museum, Cornish Seal Sanctury and Geevor Tin Mine in easy reach.

Poldark Mine
Poldark Mine is only a 10 minute drive from Porthleven, this is the location where some of the scenes we filmed for the BBC TV drama.
